American Indian Health Service of Chicago
CHICAGO, IL
AIHSC is a small non-profit, 501c (3) clinic in the Northwest comer of Chicago. Our clinic recently moved from Chicago's northern Uptown neighborhood that had served as its home since its inception in 1974. As Uptown regentrified the American Indian and Alaska Native population began to move further west. We currently occupy part of a building that that includes just over 15,000 square feet which allows us to have 3 clinic provider rooms, a laboratory and 4 behavioral health client rooms, community room/physical activity room, group therapy room, and traditional teaching space. Chicago boasts having over 150 tribes represented in the Chicagoland area. With Chicago having a population of over 27,000 AI/AN, when you include the near suburbs, the population jumps to 41,559 AI/AN. Within the State of Illinois, there has been an increase of over 11% Al/AN resident. It is critical to know the statewide population as we have patients/clients from Cook, DuPage, Kane, Kendall and other nearby counties, even nearby Indiana counties. As a community clinic, we strive to provide the best quality care for basic services while providing a continuity of care through cooperative agreements with other hospitals, facilities, dental offices, behavioral health hospitals & pharmacies. Currently, we provide comprehensive care to the greater Chicagoland community and nearby Indian residents. The organization implemented the general goals that includes best practice approaches of the Patient Centered Medical Home and the Integrated Behavioral Health Model. As a part of its ongoing effort to improve access to health care for American Indians residing in Illinois and nearby Indiana residents.
